Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend travel protection for most vacations.

Insurance isn't about expecting the worst. It's about not paying for it twice when life gets in the way of a trip you've planned for months.

Why it matters

Most cancellation penalties are set by suppliers — cruise lines, tour operators, resorts and airlines. Once you cross into a penalty window, those funds are gone unless you have a covered reason and travel insurance to back it up.

A small percentage of your trip cost up front is what stands between an unexpected event and losing a meaningful amount of money. For longer or international trips, it's almost always worth it.

What travel insurance can cover

  • Trip cancellation for covered reasons (illness, injury, family emergencies, jury duty, severe weather).
  • Trip interruption if something happens mid-trip and you have to come home early.
  • Medical emergencies abroad — your US health insurance often does not travel with you.
  • Emergency medical evacuation, which can run tens of thousands of dollars without coverage.
  • Baggage delay or loss and trip delays that cause missed connections.
  • "Cancel for any reason" upgrades on certain plans, with restrictions.

When we recommend it most strongly

  • Any international trip.
  • Cruises of any length — even closed-loop sailings.
  • Trips during hurricane season (June–November in the Caribbean and Gulf).
  • Trips with non-refundable deposits or significant prepayments.
  • Multi-generational travel where any traveler has a health concern.
